My Magnificent Mind was founded by Vista Kushesh out of frustration towards the education system for its lack of social and emotional support for students, despite it being a proven precursor to academic and lifelong success. Drawing from her experience as a parenting specialist, child advocate, international speaker, mother of three, and educational psychologist, Vista approaches her work with a wealth of knowledge and dedication. Vista is also a proud contributor to PTA advocacy groups advocating for change within the school system and attends conferences annually to personally address education officials at the state capitol. She is passionate about challenging the nation’s educational standards and status quo in order to bring social emotional learning into the classrooms of today’s children to prepare them for tomorrow’s world.

Prioritization of Social Emotional Wellness is a proven precursor to academic and lifelong success. Let’s face it though, funding is low and emotional wellness is not at the top of a school’s list – not to mention teachers’ plates are so full so they really can’t take on more anyway. So as parents, are we to just sit back and wait for our children to magically develop emotional intelligence? Self-regulation skills? Problem solving skills? A growth mindset? Buffer themselves from the very fast rising rates of childhood anxiety and depression? PTA can bridge the gap – and I can walk you through every step with meaningful, low cost interventions that changes your whole school’s culture!
High school students often hesitate to seek counseling or self-help resources, leaving them vulnerable and unprepared for life’s challenges. The Change Makers Club offers a transformative solution by training students in emotional intelligence to equip them to mentor elementary and middle school students in an after-school program. What they may not realize is how profoundly this experience will impact their own mental health. Through life-changing training, high schoolers gain confidence as role models while supporting their younger peers. Many are drawn to the program for the volunteer hours or the boost to their college applications, but the true reward is the personal growth and resilience they build along the way. It’s a powerful win-win for both the high schoolers and the younger students they mentor. My Magnificent Mind provides an evidence-based curriculum and training for the high school students, while working with the feeder schools to team them up with eager peers.
A student-led curriculum that aligns with common core standards to be implemented during students’ advisory period (middle school) or during weekly whole school announcements (elementary school). Students are best influenced by their peers; so we are leaning into leveraging the positive influence of peer mentoring to enhance emotional intelligence and supporting them with tools to feel empowered to take on real-life challenges together! Upper grades will be paired with lower grade peers where they provide mentoring via engaging and easy to implement social-emotional activities. The time is now to support our children and provide them with the sense of belonging that research consistently demonstrates has a profound impact on students’ lifelong success and wellbeing.
